Primary Enterprise Activities

The EBeBP offer a comprehensive programme of events themed to science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) tailored specifically for primary-aged students. These half-day and full-day workshops, competitions and special events, all offer the components for young students to understand the world around them - an essential part of any student's education. Many of the activities are tailored to the requirements of the school.

Have a look at the EBeBP's Primary Newsletter, Spring 2011 issue to see some of the events that keep us busy. Also, you may wish to see an article from Royal Mail's Primary Teacher's Post, which features an event the EBeBP worked closely with them on to deliver to local primary schools.

STEM Ambassadors

The EBeBP is a provider of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) workshops and therefore regularly utilises the STEM Ambassador scheme run by STEMNET.  These Ambassadors are volunteers from STEM professions who, much like our Business Ambassadors, give their time to assist local schools.

STEM workshops & Primary Enterprise

Today, teaching science and science-based subjects can pose many challenges and limitations for primary schools: access to equipment is scarce, and the dedication of time to investigations is demanding. The EBeBP offers to simplify this for schools. Here are some of the activities we offer to engage primary-aged students:

  • Circuit Detectives

Students identify faults to repair electrical circuits.
Years 3,4,5,6

  • Control Technology

Build a robot and programme it using LEGO MINDSTORMS to follow complex commands using integrated touch, sound and light sensors.
Years 5 & 6

  • Datalogging

Introduction to datalogging: students log temperature, sound and light levels and manipulate data on your computer as graphs for analysis.
Years 4,5,6

  • Habitats

Experience the story of two mice who changed habitats, make a new nest and create a brand new species.
Years F, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

  • Lights and Shadows

Make a shadow puppet show whilst exploring the properties of light and dark.
Years F - 6

  • Maths Stories

Solve number problems to progress the story and find out what has happened to Buttercup, the missing cow.
Years 1 & 2

  • Reactions

Investigate reversible and irreversible reactions through exciting and dramatic chemical experiments.
Years 5 & 6

  • Rockets

Become an engineer and discover the forces that will be acting on the BLOODHOUND SSC project through making rockets!
Years 1-6

  • Seed Dispersal

Recreate the ingenious ways plants disperse their seeds though design and technology.
Years 3,4,5,6

  • Structures

Can you build a house strong enough to ward off the big bad wolf? Design and build a shelter using newspaper rods made with our special STIXX machine!
Years 1 - 6

  • Maths Marathon Competition

Working in teams of three, pupils participate in school to identify one team to put forward for the final of this popular inter-school competition. The final is held at a local business venue.

  • BHEST Maths Activity Days

Run in conjunction with British Horseracing Education Standards Trust at either Royal Ascot or Royal Windsor Racecourse; where children can learn how maths relates to the everyday working life of the racing world.

  • Reading Buddies and Number Partners

The Reading Buddy and Number Buddy programmes are designed specifically in mind to provide a valuable contribution to raising the attainment levels in both English and Maths in primary-aged students. Volunteers from the business world come in to the school to either hear young students read, or to test their knowledge of numbers. This occurs in a one-on-one, mentor-orientated environment, either weekly or fortnightly for a designated period of time.

  • Professional Development Placements

PDPs are an excellent opportunity for teachers to learn new skills, acquire knowledge, share best practise, network, have access to new materials and resources, etc. If you have a training requirement, the EBeBP can organise a PDP to suit you either as an individual, school or a cluster of schools.
